Reception at Victor City Art Gallery Celebrates Mary Lou Oslund

Mary Lou is an award-winning professional photographer & artist who is known for

her artwork in different mediums which include photographic murals, fused glass,

wood burning & carving, & fabric arts. Mary Lou is inspired by birds of all types,

wildlife, beautiful scenery & whatever is happening in the world around her at

Mary Lou received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kansas City Art Institute

& her Masters degree from Colorado State University. She is also a certified

Professional Photographer & has both her Craftsman & Masters degrees from

Professional Photographers of America. She also received the “National Award” from

Professional Photographers of America for teaching & inspiring young people in how

important it is to look through the camera’s viewfinder at the world they live in &

Her professional photography career has spanned 55 years & included working for

big corporations doing commercial photography, owning her own photography studio

known as Oslund’s Creative Eye Studio which she still operates here in Teton Valley &

teaching Photography & Technology Education in Colorado & Idaho high schools for

Mary Lou’s fabric art pieces started from her love of sewing. She started designing

& sewing her own clothing when she was in high school. About 18 years ago, she

created a dye sublimation process that allowed her to put her images of Teton &

Yellowstone scenes & wildlife images into fabric which lead her to create potholders,

kitchen mitts, aprons & totes which she sold for 12 years at the Driggs Farmer’s

She branched out about 20 years ago into fused glass & has never looked back.

Mary Lou finds glass fusing to be relaxing & can spend endless hours working on her

own unique designs. She also teaches fused glass in the winter months in Mesa AZ.

Her latest medium is wood burning & wood carving which has given her a new

direction of creativity. She says wood burning is similar to pen & ink in many ways

but is done with various heated pen points on slabs of wood. She has only been

doing this medium for about a year & a half. She has taught herself various wood-burning techniques & will often combine various mediums into a finished art piece.

She received a third place & two honorable mention ribbons on the intermediate

level at the Arizona State Woodcarvers convention this spring in her first

Mary Lou’s latest achievement was having one of her wood burning & acrylic art

pieces selected for the Teton Regional Land Trust Sandhill Crane Festival in

September. The design has been on posters, banners & various clothing items around

town this summer. She had entered the poster competition 6 times before having

her design selected & is honored to be part of the festival this year.

Mary Lou will have her multi-media artwork called “In the Presence of Mother

Earth” on display at the Victor City Hall Gallery from Oct 8, 2024, to Jan 7, 2025.

CITY OF VICTOR JULY 4TH PARADE AND CRAFT FAIR UPDATES

It's time to start thinking about the Fourth of July PARADE and ART IN THE PARK!

Celebrate Independence Day at Victor's 4th of July Parade!

Get ready to show your patriotic pride as the City of Victor's annual 4th of July parade returns on Thursday, July 4th at 10:30 am. This hometown tradition is a beloved way to kick off the Independence Day holiday.

Please note the parade route has changed this year. It will start at Dogwood St. and travel along Main St. before concluding at Aspen Ave. Floats will line up on Dogwood and down Agate Ave. Road closures and detours will be in effect, so please review the parade map at City Events (victoridaho.gov) and obey all road closure/detour signs and event officials.

To accommodate the new parade route and to keep the event pedestrian-friendly, parking will be prohibited on Agate Ave., East Dogwood St., Cedron Ave., Aspen Ave., and the eastern side of the Access Road (between Cedron and 7000 S) from 2am-12pm on July 4th. Starting at 10:25am, downtown travel will be limited to local residents and parade entries only. Please arrive early and use designated parking at Sherman Park and side streets not on the parade route/detours.

How to Participate All are welcome to enter! Download the Parade Registration, form at City Events (victoridaho.gov) and bring the completed form to the line-up. For safety, only adult participants can throw candy/items into the crowd.

THE CITY IS NO LONGER READING ANNOUNCEMENTS- TO BE RECOGNIZED YOU MUST HAVE A BANNER ON THE FRONT OF YOUR FLOAT WITH YOUR BUSINESS/ORGANIZATION NAME.

Instructions To Register for The 2024 July 4th Celebration of Art in the Park: 

The 2024 July 4th Celebration of Art in the Park will be held July 4th through July 7th at the Victor City Park.  Please submit your application by printing or filling out the Art in The Park Application and bringing it into City Hall, emailing a completed form to victorcityevents@gmail.com, or mailing it to PO Box 122, Victor ID 83455.This year, a meticulous review process will be conducted to curtail redundancy in product offerings, thereby facilitating a diverse array of art and crafts to grace the event's display.

In place of a Parade on Main Street, this year all activities will be in Victor City Park and along East Birch Street. 

To create an uptown festive mood we're asking local businesses to participate in the following events:

Decorate the front door of your establishment with a holiday theme:

Please complete the Contest Entry Form no later than November 15th. 

Doors need to be completed and ready to be judged by December 5th.

The Best Holiday Door Decoration Winner will be announced in the park at the Holiday Festival of Lights on December 7th. 

On December 7th from 1 pm to 5 pm, E. Birch Street will magically transform into a Christmas Trunk-or-Treat event. Join the fun, promote your business, and hand out holiday treats to children naughty and nice. 

Complete the Christmas Trunk-or-Treat Sign-up Form by December 1st. 

The Best Decorated Christmas Trunk-or-Treat Vehicle Winner will be announced in the park at the Holiday Festival of Lights on December 7th. 

The city will be hosting its first Christmas Mistletoe Market on December 7th from 1 pm to 5 pm on E. Birch Street. Want to sign up and show off your creative talents? 

Complete the Vendor Registration Form by November 15th- (spaces are limited)

Booth size is 10' x 10' only (vendor supplies tent & tent pole weights, 40 lb. wt. recommended - no stakes).
