Request to Examine Records
City of Victor – Public Records Request FAQ
How should I write the description?
Be specific and detailed. If you know the name of the record, please list or clearly describe it. Include details that help narrow the scope of your request, such as dates or specific time periods, addresses, and the types of records you want (or do not want) included. Vague or overly broad descriptions may result in delays and/or applicable fees.
Good example:
Please provide copies of any building permits issued by the City of Victor between August 2021 and December 2021 related to 138 Main Street.
Poor example:
Any and all records related to 138 Main Street.
What information may I request?
You may request copies of existing public records maintained by the City of Victor. The City does not create new documents in response to a records request.
Are all records kept at City Hall?
No. Some records—such as recorded deeds, plats, easements, and certain property-related documents—are filed with and maintained by the county, not the City of Victor.
For these types of records, you may need to contact the Teton County Clerk or the Teton County Recorder’s Office.
Is there a fee for records requests?
Fees for public records requests are governed by Idaho Code § 74-102.
Under Idaho law:
- The first two (2) hours of labor to locate and copy records are generally provided at no charge.
- After the first two hours, a fee may be charged for staff time based on the hourly rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee.
- Copying costs may also be charged (e.g., per page for paper copies).
- Additional fees may apply for extensive requests, redactions, or use of specialized personnel or equipment.
- If a third-party provider is required to retrieve or produce records the actual cost charged to the City may be passed on to the requester.
If fees are expected, you will be notified in advance. Payment must be made in full prior to release of records. If the actual costs are less than expected, you will receive a refund of the difference.
Is my request kept private?
