Emma Vautour
Artist Bio: Emma began painting as a small hobby in 2019. In 2024, she started taking the
practice more seriously, exploring both soft pastel and oil paint. She finds herself fortunate to
be inspired by the other incredible artists around her and the beauty of her home in Teton
Valley, Idaho. Emma’s professional career has so far focused on ecological restoration and
landscape design. Her childhood was spent in central Pennsylvania and in adulthood has lived
in various parts of the U.S. including Wyoming, Idaho and Massachusetts. Her other love,
besides painting, is growing flowers which she does in earnest in the summer in her garden in
Tetonia. Follow on IG: @thefowerhouse.tetonvalley
Artist Statement: I work in both soft pastel and oil paint, but am in a season of favoring soft
pastel as I’m attracted to its unique luminosity as a medium. My work attempts to capture the
moments of awe I experience in western landscapes when light and shadow create the kind of
drama that spurs you into loving a place. I endeavor to relay a sense of movement and an
impression of my own experience in these landscapes. Awe is a potent healer and I find
myself gravitating towards her. The show title, “For There’s Always Light” references both the
hope I find through experiencing and recreating the beauty surrounding me, and a line from
Amanda Gorman's poem “The Hill We Climb”.
